THE beautification of Coffs Harbour’s most popular beach is now complete.

The new Park Beach beach showers and drinking fountains have been connected, the seating completed and the turf watered in the final finishing touches to a nearly $250,000 makeover for the main access area to the beach.

“Park Beach is the most popular beach on the Coffs Coast and this wonderful upgrade means that even more people can enjoy the stunning views at this iconic spot, safe in the knowledge that the work also makes it an even safer place to visit the ocean,” Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Denise Knight said.

Funded from community monies of $83,500 provided through developer contributions and a grant of $165,833 given to Coffs Harbour Surf Club by the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation, the latest works have provided the community with improved emergency access, better access for visitors with disabilities, attractive landscaping, beach showers, statement seating and public art.

The finishing of Stage 2 – which included a Lifesaver equipment wash-down facility, improved lawn areas, artwork, improved footpaths and public areas with drinking fountains, beach showers,  seating and a new access road turn-around area with better rescue vehicle access – marks the completion of the whole project.

“As a result of the works, holiday-makers and locals alike will have a much more enjoyable experience when they visit Park Beach,”  President of Coffs Harbour Surf Club Terry Maher said.

“This project has been a long-term vision of many and has been achieved through working together. We are pleased that both the club and Council have also agreed to continue to work together on the maintenance.”

Local sculptor Jeramie Carter created the seating and the sculpture.

“The boat-like forms of the seats represent our love for the sea and the way we use it for recreation,” he said.  “It’s a shape that has lasted thousands of years and is synonymous with the ocean.”
